Making a ceremony your own

Your wedding day is not just the day you say 'I do' to the love of your life, it's also likely to be the only day you get to have all your friends and family in one room!

Your guests are there because they love you and we bet they'd love nothing more than for the day to feel like 'you'. Some of the best feedback we have from couples is that we've managed to show their personalities in ways they hadn't thought of - and that's what it's all about!

There are plenty of ways to personalise your big day - including the ceremony itself! Here are some ideas for making your wedding ceremony your own...

Incorporate a ritual into your ceremony -

Maybe you love the idea of handfasting or lighting of candles. Have a look at some old fashioned wedding traditions and see if any resonate with you! Rituals can add a fun element to the day, and they're also a great conversation starter for for any guests seated at a table with guests they don't know later on!

Invite members of your families to do a reading -

A poem is always a touching addition to a ceremony. You could ask them to find something that reminds them of you and your relationship, or you could choose the poem yourself.

Choose who walks you down the aisle -

Sure tradition says that the bride's father does this, but if that doesn't work for you then scrap it! Maybe you have a father-figure you want to involve, maybe you don't like the whole concept of being 'given away' and you want to walk down that aisle solo. If you have a great relationship with your mother and don't see why she should be left out, why not have both your parents walk you down the aisle? We've found that this is fairly common in Jewish ceremonies and we love it!

Honouring loved ones who are no longer with us -

If there is someone you'll be thinking of on the day, why not mention them? Mentioning someone in a reading, having a photograph of them or carrying something of theirs with you is a beautiful way to honour their memory as well as making sure, for yourself, that they're involved in a day you'd love them to be a part of.

Choose your officiant -

Having an officiant who connects with you both, as a couple, really adds something special to a wedding ceremony. Becoming ordained is actually a fairly simple process (you can do it online), so you can even have a friend or family member lead the service for you.

You could also write your own vows to really personalise the ceremony. This option always gets the tears flowing!

Music matters -

This sounds simple, but really take the time to think about songs that mean a lot to you - memories that you share together with be rekindled when they music plays. This is something you can do throughout the day too - why not play music from the year your met during the evening? And songs your guests remember singing along to with you will always help get people dancing!

And for the selfies -

Create a hashtag for your wedding - not only will any social media addicts on the guest list love it, but it means that you won't miss a photo! Think of the fun you'll have scrolling through photos your friends have taken while you're sipping on cocktail on honeymoon!
